I'm headed for Columbus, Ohio at the end of this month for the biggest, coolest sports event of the year. Immersing myself in the physical culture world at the Arnold Sports Festival is exciting, unlike any other three days.
As always taking place in Columbus, Ohio, from February 27 - March 2, 2014 more than 18,000 athletes will take over the city. More than 50 events and sports are featured. I will be extensively covering professional bodybuilding, CrossFit, Olympic weightlifting and the Arnold Fitness Expo. I’ll spend three days covering more than 700 booths featuring the latest in supplements, equipment for fitness and weight training, clothing, and nutrition. Updates, interviews, and perspective on the supplement, weight-training and CrossFit worlds will be appearing on this site from the Expo.
A constant stream of the top athletes in every discipline work the booths. They are available for signing autographs, posing for photos, and will take the time for a chat. Over the years I’ve met some amazing top names in bodybuilding, weight lifting, MMA, baseball and football and movies. Turn a corner at the Expo and you never know who you’ll see.
Five new events debut this year: Tennis, Swimming, Wrestling, Arnold Classic 212 (lighter weight class for professional bodybuilders) and Pole Fitness. Keeping with the recent trend of fewer people interested in women’s professional bodybuilding, the Arnold Classic 212 is replacing the Ms. International, held for 25 years at the Arnold. Iris Kyle was the most recent winner.
All eyes in the physical culture world will be upon Columbus, Ohio, at the end of this month. There’s no event in the world that compares; nowhere else does the same cross-section of top athletes in so many disciplines gather for a few days. And it’s all available to the public.
Here’s a good example of interest to bodybuilders; last year in one short period of time I ran into Phil Heath, reigning Mr. Olympia, Ronnie Coleman, and Jay Cutler, all inside booths talking to anyone coming by. That was a lot of muscle in a short period of time!
The Arnold Sports Festival website, www.arnoldsportsfestival.com, has a wealth of information including competition schedules, competitor registration, visitor information and much more. They also have an active Facebook presence.
